Grey Sweater

This morning
I put on my grey sweater
Unaware of how much that I needed it
But not even two hours ago
I wandered astray
In an alley on the corner of Grace and Kindness
My eyes dashed back and forth
Unaware of where I was
Until they stopped
On a woman
Holding her sleeping child
She sat very still
Keeping him close
As the chill of the wind blew down the black hallway
I took another step
And she looked over at me
A soft smile on her joyful yet grimy face
Her beautiful little baby boy turned over
His small body shivering from the frozen air
And she faced away from me
To pull what little she had of a jacket over him
Too keep him warm
As this grey cotton did me
Another copy of over one million
I now walk down the street with no sweater
